Taking construction training to the next level

Learners who are completing training at Tjeka Training Matters have access to facilitators with extensive experience in various facets of civil-engineering construction and building, as well as the best and latest tools and equipment available in the market. This ensures that they are at the cutting-edge of industry practice when they are ready to work in the field.

For example, renowned Upat SA tools are incorporated in all of Tjeka Training Matters’ Learnerships, Skills Paths and short courses. This includes Stabila spirit levels which are essential tools in just about every construction-related trade. They provide high levels of accuracy – 0,5mm/m in the normal position – as well as good visibility and durability. These are important traits that facilitate quality workmanship on project sites.

Tjeka Training Matters continues to nurture a strong working relationship with Upat SA and other leading suppliers and manufacturers of construction-related products, tools and equipment. This has ensured that the leading private Technical and Vocational Education and Training College is able to supply training that is always relevant and in line with the skills needs of industry.

Learners from a community in Steelpoort, Limpopo, recently also had the opportunity to learn from very experienced artisan practitioners and work with Stabila spirit levels while completing training in basic bricklaying and plumbing from Tjeka Training Matters.

The training was provided on behalf of a large mining company in the area. It is part of the mine’s commitment to uplifting communities located within its operational footprint and areas from which it sources labour. These commitments are enshrined in the mine’s Social Labour Plan.

This certified training is the first important step taken by the learners towards becoming qualified artisans.

Importantly, the training provided by Tjeka Training Matters will help address skills shortages that are contributing to high unemployment levels in the community. The learners have acquired basic skills that they need to secure employment and start their own businesses.

Tjeka Training Matters’ Kevin Vena and Erik Dlamini facilitated the training.

Vena says, “This is yet another example of how mining and construction are helping to uplift communities through quality skills training. We look forward to possibly assisting more community members in the future when additional training opportunities arise in the area.”

“We once again had a very high success rate on this project. All the learners were enthusiastic and motivated to achieve. This, combined with our hands-on approach to training, ensured a very positive outcome,” Dlamini concludes.
